History

Once part of the VIII legion’s 66th company, the warband now known as the Forlorn claw has been scouring the galaxy for over ten thousand years. For millennia they have punished the Empire of Man, the empire they helped build, for its betrayal. As many other renegade chapters they kept on fighting the Long War, knowing that one day the false emperor’s dream would die. During this long fight they saw the many different companies, remnants of their once great legion, fall to the forces of the Empire or become corrupted by Chaos, a force they hated almost as much as their grandfather’s domain.

At times the warband would heed the call of the Despoiler and join one of his campaigns, needing his support or resources to continue their raids. One such answered call became the 13th black crusade. Together with numerous other so called traitor marines the 66th company attacked the Cadian gate on board their strike cruiser Terrorgheist. All claws launched from the ship in boarding torpedoes and drop-pods, not knowing they would never see their cursed vessel again. Among these boarding parties were the 66th company’s Second Claw with Asmodar commanding and Sixth Claw under Mallog’s command. Both claws successfully infiltrated a Blood Angel vessel and did what they did best, … hunt!

While the hunting claws were gathering moderate successes and Abaddon’s fleet began to finally bring down Cadia, the Terrorgheist was not faring well at all. The void war quickly turned against it and loyalist ships turned her in to a burning husk, before detonating her reactor and ending her millennia long service to the Night Lords.

As Cadia fell and the Cicatrix Maledictum began to rip the galaxy apart, the surviving loyalist troops  withdrew, forcing the remaining Night Lords to abandon their targets. Unable to return to their own vessel, they were extracted to a Black Legion vessel. Although they exacted a heavy price on the Blood Angels, all that was left of 66th company were Second claw and Sixth claw, and their company captain, Dragul, who had slipped in to a susan coma.

As time runs differently within the Eye of Terror to which the Black Legion vessel retreated, it is unclear how long the Night Lords remained as guests of the Despoiler. During their time on board, Malkazed, the icon bearer of the Sixth claw, came under the influence of Judar, a Word Bearer and finally fell to the lure of the chaos gods. Through the combined machinations and influence of Judar and Mallog, the other members of the Sixth claw gave up their purity and became host to unholy warp entities.

Now that the Night Lords finally made it back to realspace their allegiance and objectives are split. While Asmodar of the Second Claw wishes to rebuild their company one raid and mission at a time, independent of Abaddon’s mad designs, Judar and Malkazed never tire of trying to bring their peers in to the fold of Chaos Undivided.

Whatever the future may hold, for now they are truly lost and so they have adopted the name the Forlorn Claw.

Asmodar's Talon

Asmodar’s kill team still follows the old ways of the VIII legion. They do not follow any of the Chaos gods and
hunt followers of the false emperor, of the chaos gods and xenos scum with equal zeal. All they care for is
bringing fear and terror to any and all within the galaxy and rebuilding their fallen 66th company

Mallog's Talon

Mallog has lead the remains of his claw down the dark path of Chaos Undivided. Influenced by a Word Bearer sorcerer that has joined him, he converted while a guest of the Black Legion. Judar and Malkazed have gifted the power of Chaos to their teammates. All of Mallog’s kill team have been possessed by warp entities and have lost themselves to these demons to varying degrees. While they still consider themselves Night Lords, their allegiances are divided.
